There is no telling how dynamic and transformed our society would become if all the great ideas in the minds of many people in the world today were to materialise. Myles Munroe was absolutely right in stating that the richest place on earth is the graveyard, for therein lies all the unsung songs, unwritten books, and paintings that remained as brilliant ideas in the minds of creatives, among numerous others. I am writing this on the back of an idea I wrote down roughly two years back, that has now been executed. Seeing its reality is simply exhilarating.
The actual phrase I had written down was, ‘Help a minimum of two children publish books in 2021.’ It’s October 2023, and we have just published and launched five children authors aged 10 and 11 years. We more than doubled the initial target. And I dare say that these are the first of numerous other children authors that we will be working with in the days ahead. The possibilities that have entered my mind on seeing the massive ripple effect of the execution of this idea, have been flooding my mind in unstoppable waves that keep growing each day. I’m fully in agreement with Oliver Wendall Holmes in his quote, ‘A mind that is stretched to a new idea never returns to its original dimension.’
The hesitation, fear and numbness that accost our brains in the execution of ideas mostly become the coffins that unfortunately take them to an early grave. Consider this – everything around us evolved from an idea that was not only thought, but executed. Some of the things we see may have been executed as raw versions of the original ideas, which were improved gradually over time to suit the various needs, and the changing environment and times. Phones and other electronic gadgets are perfect examples of this.
There is absolutely nothing we see that was not first an idea – but somebody had to move from thinking it to executing it, before we could utilise it. The beauty of these ideas is that they can become systems that support other facilities, the same way superhighways open up previously inaccessible areas, cause commerce to thrive, and support the emergence of new developments in once underdeveloped areas. So much is waiting to happen if only our ideas can materialise and serve humanity’s numerous needs.
It is incredibly fascinating to watch how transformational ideas can be, as worlds within worlds in us, which transcend the veil of time to serve ages beyond our lifetime. Kernels of ideas start subtly in one generation, and with the roots firmly planted there, extend their reach into epochs that humanity is still speculating about. The throbbing heartbeat of every idea that is executed will be felt in everything it touches and transforms. Our lives are better today because ideas were not stopped dead in their tracks, merely as thoughts, but were allowed to curate histories that are now part of our heritage; they have become indelible footprints in the narrative of humanity.
What ideas are you still toying with, that could be the next game changer, and need to be set on the runway already? Don’t stall any longer, get started on the journey to execution. Never underestimate the power of an idea!
